Description
Colt M1911A1 Government Model — American Combat Classic
The Colt M1911A1 is the most influential handgun design in American history. John M. Browning designed the M1911 in 1910, and it was adopted by the US Army on March 29, 1911. It served as the standard US military sidearm through two World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam — a 74-year service record unmatched by any other US military firearm. The Government Model remains Colt highest production 1911 and the benchmark for the platform.

Combat History
The M1911 earned its reputation in the Philippines, the trenches of WWI, the beaches of Normandy, the Chosin Reservoir, and Khe Sanh. The .45 ACP cartridge was designed specifically for the US Army after 9mm and .38 caliber pistols proved inadequate in stopping Moro warriors in the Philippines during the 1905 Moro Rebellion. The M1911 delivered a definitive solution that has never been fully replaced.
