The M82A1 is designed to defeat light armored vehicles, radar equipment, missile systems, helicopters on the ground, and crew-served weapons at distances where the shooter is outside effective return fire range. It fires the same .50 BMG round as the M2HB “Ma Deuce” heavy machine gun. California, Illinois, and certain other states restrict or prohibit .50 BMG rifles — check local law.
